What flashlights investigators choose are largely a matter of personal preference. However, flashlights with a red lens are recommended. Flashlights with a red lens will have less effect on your eyes and your eyes will adjust more quickly if you have to turn the light on or off.
We are using an angle army style flashlight that comes with four lenses (red, green, blue and yellow). Its high density construction protects it from damage and it has a belt clip. It is relatively small and operates on 2 AA batteries.
Because batteries can drain at an unbelievable rate without warning at the sites of paranormal activity, and one of the most important pieces of equipment is your flashlight, we have also chosen to use an alternative source of illumination. Should the batteries in our flashlights go dead, we also carry 6 inch cyalume chemical light sticks. They emit a steady red glow for up to 12 hours and weigh only one ounce.
