Hawk Mountain Sanctuary

   The old headquarters building in the nature sanctuary was originally the home of Mathias Schambacher. He and his wife operated a small inn at their home, but it was eventually noticed that many of the guests never checked out of the inn. Schambacher confessed to robbing and murdering several people and burying their bodies in the surrounding woods.

   Today, people have witnessed ghosts looking out of the windows of the building. There is also the ghost of a young girl who died from a fall down the stairs., landing in the center of the living room. She has been seen floating about eighteen inches above the center of the living room. Since the time she lived, the home was remodeled and the floor lowered eighteen inches.
