Intelligent Ghosts

Intelligent hauntings are actual entities that can and do interact with their surroundings. They can be tied to places, objects or even people. Very rarely are they found in cemeteries. They are usually tied to something they were familiar with in life and they often have a reason for remaining after death.

Apparitions are probably the spirit’s mental projection of themselves. This may explain why some apparitions are missing their feet or other parts (how often do you think about your feet?) or why some apparitions seem “fuzzy” or transparent.

These hauntings may also involve smells and noises, just like residual hauntings, but not in a repeating pattern. Very rarely, objects may be moved. However, this is rare and may indicate an escalation of the activity of a haunting, as if the ghost is making greater efforts to be noticed.

Ghosts are rarely harmful. Most injuries are actually caused by clumsiness brought on by fear. This is not to say that intelligent ghosts never cause harm, but for the most part, ghosts have no wish to harm the living and may even be upset themselves when it happens unintentionally.

There are several ways to deal with an intelligent haunt. Quite often the key is communication. The ghosts is aware, and therefore can respond to requests or demands. Sometimes the living residents of a place may not want the ghost to leave. In this case, a “deal” can be worked out with the ghost. Communication also works well for finding out why a ghost lingers. If someone can find out what the ghost wants and can provide the solution or at least make an attempt, the ghost may leave on its own. It is commonly suggested that during communication with a ghost, the death of the spirit should not be mentioned. Some ghosts are in denial about their death, or even outright unaware of it. Sometimes just the act of communication can reduce a living person’s fear enough that the person decides they can live with the ghost.
